1-Shot Ballistics has been updated to provide support for 5dragmodels: G1, G5, G6, G7, and G6. The computation engine hasbeenchanged to a Point Mass Solver, which utilizes the dragfunctionmodels developed by Ballistics Research Laboratories.Correctionsare available for the Environment (temperature,pressure, altitude,and humidity), Spin Drift, Sight Cant, and theCoriolis Effect.This app comes pre-loaded with several guns,cartridges, scopes andbullets to allow you to explore itscapabilities. It also containscartridge and bullet libraries whichyou can import to use inconfiguring your own weapons, or comparingthem to one another toassess their relative merits. The zzDrag app computes ballistic coefficients for multiple dragmodels by entering critical bullet dimensions measured with amicrometer or obtained from the manufacturer. The most appropriatedrag model for the bullet is determined by comparing the ballisticcoefficient values over a range of input bullet velocities. Thedrag model which produces the lowest standard deviation for thecomputed ballistic coefficient is the model which will mostaccurately predict bullet flight trajectory. The following dragmodels are used by zzDrag in the comparison described above: G1drag model - the standard drag model for bullets with a flat baseand 2 caliber ogive. G5 drag model - created for moderate (lowbase) boat tailed bullets with a 6 caliber tangent nose design. G6drag model - created for flat based bullets with a 7 caliber secantnose design. G7 drag model - created for "Very Low Drag" boat tailbullets with a 10 caliber tangent nose design. G8 drag model -created for flat base bullets with a 10 caliber secant nose design.The app will display the best (mean) ballistic coefficient to beused for the bullet based on the velocity range over which is it isto be used. This requires the muzzle velocity and a terminalvelocity. For example, if the bullet is to used for 1000 yardtarget shooting, the velocity at 1000 yards would be used as theterminal velocity. If, on the other hand, it is to be used forhunting deer sized game, the velocity at which the bullet fallsbelow 1000 ft-lbs of energy may be a good choice for the terminalvelocity. The zzDrag app computes the amount of drag contributed bythe bullets nose, skin, base, and boat-tail for any of thesupported drag models over a range of velocity values. The corealgorithms are those developed by Robert McCoy in his McDrag Basicprogram. The bullet properties entered once are saved in aninternal database for later recall. The bullet dimensions can beentered in inches, millimeters, or calibers. Bullet stability iscomputed by zzDrag using the barrel twist rate, bullet propertiesincluding plastic tip length and environmental factors if desired.The environmental model used is the ICAO. The standard atmospherecan be used to compute pressure and temperature from elevation, orthey can be entered directly in either English or metric units.Bullet stability is shown as the "s" output in the algorithmsdeveloped by Michael Courtney and Donald Miller in their paper "AStability Formula for Plastic Tipped Bullets". S values less than 1are shown in red as unstable. The "s" value cutoff value for stableis select-able as either 1.3 (bench rest), 1.5 (military), or 2.0(extreme weather). All reports can be written as either a csv(comma spaced values) file for import into a spreadsheet program orsaved as a PDF (Portable Document File) for viewing on multiplehand-held or computer platforms.

This free application provides a suite of ballistic utilitiesdesigned to aid the shooter become more proficient with hisfirearm. The starting point is defining a firearm (rifle or pistol)and pairing it with the cartridges to be used or evaluated. Side byside comparison of up to three different cartridges is supported.Output is provided in both tabular and plot form. This is usefulwhen researching your next firearm purchase, or deciding whichbullet for a given cartridge will provide the characteristics yourequire. Local Altitude, Temperature, Pressure, and Humidity valuesmay be used to provide a more precise shooting solution.Optionally, altitude may be used to correct Temperature and/orPressure with the Standard Atmospheric Model. Exterior Ballistictables and plots are computed for a Firearm/Cartridge pair toprovide Velocity, Energy, and Bullet Path values versus targetdistances. This has become moreimportant as the use of Lead-Free bullets becomes more common andin some states mandatory. A Target Solution report provides scopeadjustments and holdover, windage, and lead values for distance,wind, and target motion variables. A Target Simulation viewprovides aiming/point-of-impact feedback for distance, wind, andtarget motion variables. Commercial Rifle Cartridge information forFederal, Remington, and Winchester ammunition are available forimport and pairing with a rifle profile. The data can beselectively reduced to present just the cartridges of interest. Autility to compute the adjustment needed to change a firearms scopezero distance is provided. True Muzzle velocity is computed fromChronograph velocity. The G1 Ballistic Coefficient may be computedfrom two velocity measurements taken at least 50 yards apart. Thisis useful since some cartridge manufacturers provide bulletvelocity information versus distance, but not the ballisticcoefficient of the bullet. A utility is provided to compute opensight adjustments based on the difference between the sightingpoint, the point-of-impact, and the distance to the target. Feltrecoil is computed from rifle, bullet, and powder weights.

This free application provides just the essentials of 1-ShotBallistics App with the addition of being able to select the G1,G5, G6, G7, or G8 drag model. You do NOT have the ability to writecsv files or make pdf reports. No additional privileges arerequired, and there are no adds. You may choose either English orMetric unit systems for the required inputs and displayed outputs.Separate Range Units allow either feet, yards, or meters to be usedfor specifying the range distances. The zzRangeLog app is used to record the results of a stringofshots at the range. It works well to differentiate between aseriesof shots when developing hand-loads or when comparingvariouscommercial loads for a given cartridge. Shot locationsareindicated by touching the shot location on a target grid onthescreen. Environmental data can be added to documentshootingconditions, and a descriptions of the load components mayalso beadded. The completed log is saved as a .png file in asub-directoryof the downloads directory for retrieval and archival.
