It formed in 1982in Bellevue, Washington out of the local band the Mob. The band hasreleased 15 studio albums, one EP, several DVDs, and continues totour and record. The original lineup consisted of vocalist GeoffTate, guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bassist EddieJackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield.Queensrÿche has sold over 20million albums worldwide, including over 6 million albums in theUnited States. The band received worldwide acclaim after therelease of their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which is oftenconsidered one of the greatest heavy metal concept albums of alltime. Their follow-up release, Empire, released in 1990, was alsovery successful and included the hit single "Silent Lucidity". Theband has received three Grammy Award nominations for songs fromboth albums. In 1998, drummer Rockenfield received an individualGrammy nomination.In 1997, guitarist and primary songwriter DeGarmoleft the band for personal reasons. Over the years, hisreplacements have been Kelly Gray, Mike Stone, and Parker Lundgren.Following a highly publicized backstage altercation before a showin São Paulo, Brazil, in April 2012, Tate was fired from the bandand replaced with then-Crimson Glory singer Todd La Torre. Inresponse to his dismissal, Tate and his wife Susan (who served asthe band's manager from 2005–2012) filed a lawsuit in a Washingtoncourt, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. The ruling inthe preliminary injunction was that both parties were allowed touse the name Queensrÿche until a court ruling or a settlementdecides who gets to use the name. A settlement was reached on April17, 2014, in which founding members Wilton, Rockenfield and Jacksonwere awarded the rights to the band trademark, continuing to playwith the lineup that additionally includes singer La Torre andguitarist Lundgren.During the time both parties could use the nameQueensrÿche, Tate created his own lineup featuring former guitaristGray and musicians from bands including Blue Öyster Cult, OzzyOsbourne, Whitesnake, Dio, AC/DC and Quiet Riot. This version ofQueensrÿche with Geoff Tate released the album Frequency Unknown on23 April 2013, while Queensrÿche (with La Torre replacing Tate)released their eponymous album on 24 and 25 June 2013 (European andAmerican release date, respectively). Both bands toured in 2013 and2014.

The Eagles continued that success and hittheir commercial peak in late 1976 with the release of HotelCalifornia, which would go on to sell more than 16 million copiesin the U.S. alone and more than 32 million copies worldwide. Thealbum yielded two number-one singles, "New Kid in Town" and "HotelCalifornia." Meisner left the band in 1977 and was replaced byTimothy B. Schmit. They released their last studio album for nearly28 years in 1979 with The Long Run, which spawned three top 10singles: "Heartache Tonight," "The Long Run," and "I Can't Tell YouWhy," the lead single being another chart-topping hit.
