This guide is designed to help new players, or players seekingtoimprove, to transition to the advanced levels of plays exhibitedinthe Smash tournament scene. I wrote this guide in anticipationofthe pending influx of new players following the releases ofSuperSmash Bros. For 3DS and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U (referredinthis guide as simply Smash 4), though the information in thisguidecan broadly apply to past Smash iterations as well (64,Melee,Brawl, and Project M).

In the competitive community and on the forums, you will seepeoplediscussing many concepts that you will need to understandandbecome fluent with if you wish to participate and compete atthesemore advanced levels. Information about these varied conceptsandtechniques are scattered, so hopefully, this guide will provideaconvenient resource to address everything a newcomer toadvancedplay should know as they begin their enterpriseofself-improvement.

Note that this is not a comprehensive guide; the explanationsfoundherein are geared toward players that have an existing,broadfamiliarity of the game(s). If you are not a competitiveplayer,you may already be generally aware of some of the topicscovered inthis guide, even if you don’t have a name to give themand/orhaven’t given them much thought in the past.
