Description

Our rivers, streams, lakes and ponds are underincreasing pressure from invasive non-native species. UsingAquaInvaders you will be able to help the Environment Agency,Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Environment ProtectionAgency discover just what the extent of the problem is. Your datawill also contribute towards developing a coordinated strategy todeal with the most pressing issues.

AquaInvaders works alongside PlantTracker and is designed tocollect information on invasive non-native animals. It covers fish(12 species altogether), crayfish (5 species), amphibians (4species), Killer Shrimp, Zebra Mussel, Mink and many otherunwelcome animal species that pose a threat to native biodiversityand/or threaten the integrity of our water ways.

The app is supported by the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat, the Angling Trust, the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland andBSAC.

The data you collect will be submitted to the Biological RecordsCentre (Centre for Ecology and Hydrology) where it will be verifiedby experts and, in certain cases, responded to directly by therelevant authority. Once verified your data will be availablepublicly via the NBN Gateway.

PlantTracker 2.0.0 APK
The Environment Agency, Scottish NaturalHeritage, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and NaturalResources Wales have joined forces to help combat the spread of theUK’s most problematic invasive, non-native plant species. These plants are spreading quickly across the UK. They displacenative species and detrimentally affect the ecology of manyvulnerable habitats. Some also pose a considerable threat to humanhealth. These plants also present a large financial cost to the UKeconomy with the annual cost of all invasive, non-native speciestotalling some £2 billion. The first step in tackling this problem is accuratelydetermining where these plants are. In order to do that, we needyour help! Please use this app to help us to build a comprehensivepicture of the UK’s invasive, non-native plant species.

iRecord Ladybirds 1.1.1 APK
The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and theNature Locator team have joined forces to help map species ofladybird within the UK.For hundreds of years people in Britain have been recording whenand where they see plants, animals and other wildlife. The Biological Records Centre within the Centre for Ecology& Hydrology helps people to record many different species byworking with national recording schemes. The UK Ladybird Survey is one such scheme. Launched in 1968, itcollates and analyses records of ladybird species found across theUK, and maps their distributions. The information gathered is used by scientists to see howwildlife is changing due to factors such as climate change and thearrival of new species.Scientists could not do this work without the help of peopleacross the UK, like you, reporting when and where they find aspecies.
WISECAM 1.0.1 APK
WISECAM is a collaborative project between theUniversity of Bristol, Cardiff University and the WestcountryRivers Trust to develop WIreless SEnsing for CAtchment Monitoring. The WISECAM app enables people who are interested in measuringtheir local waterway to collect and upload simple data on waterquality and river conditions. Why is the project important, and what is it trying toachieve?Pollution of surface water, estuaries and drinking water is athreat to our ecosystems and a cost to the UK economy. Monitoringthis pollution, at its source and its subsequent transmissionthrough natural water networks, is challenging, labour-intensiveand consequently expensive. WISECAM provides the tools to equipriver stakeholders – including farmers, river guardians, anglers, members of the public – with all they need to monitor theconditions in their local water resource.
Sealife Tracker 1.1.3 APK
If you are a diver, snorkeller, boat owner orcoastal walker you can help scientists to collect much needed dataon both invasive and climate change indicator marine species aroundthe UK coastline. The Sealife Tracker project is a uniquepartnership between the British Sub Aqua Club, the MarineBiological Association, the Environment Agency, Scottish NaturalHeritage, The Scottish Environment Protection Agency and theUniversity of Bristol. The Sealife tracker app shows you how to identify each speciesand enables you to easily submit geo-located photos whenever youfind one. The app features 25 species - 14 of which are climatechange indicators and 11 that are invasive, non-native species. There's an information page for each species with a photo galleryand also a "Confusion Species" gallery for each, to help you tocorrectly ID them. You can also keep track of the project, view results and uploadmore records on the Sealife Tracker website: http://www.brc.ac.uk/sealife_tracker/home
Th@s Invasive 1.3.1 APK
We need your help to turn the tide on thealien invasion! Invasive non-native species are threatening ourwildlife and economy, but without accurate and up-to-dateinformation on their distribution effective control of thesespecies is impossible. With ‘That’s Invasive!’ you’ll be able toidentify and record 35 different invasive species faster than everbefore by utilising your phone’s in-built GPS and camera. ‘That’sInvasive!’ contains all the information you need on the IDfeatures, ecology and impact of these species – all for free and inyour pocket!‘That’s Invasive!’ has been developed by Natural Apptitude as apart of the RINSE project. River Obstacles 1.1 APK
There are thousands of man-made and natural obstacles in the riversof the UK. Many of the man-made obstacles perform importantfunctions - for example dams, sluices, weirs and road culverts -but they can also cause problems such as restricting the movementof fish, damaging river banks and beds, and posing a hazard topeople using boats, canoes and kayaks. We know where many of theseobstacles are and what kind of impacts they cause, but we suspectthat there are many more obstacles that we don’t know about, particularly in the more remote, upland areas of the UK. For thisreason the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), theRivers and Fisheries Trust for Scotland (RAFTS) and the EnvironmentAgency (EA) have joined forces to create this free to use mobileapp for iPhone and Android devices that will enable people to sendin photos and details of obstacles that they see when they’re outand about either on, in or by the UK’s rivers. The informationreceived from this app will be used by public bodies, groups ofriver users, local authorities and private companies to identifyredundant man made obstacles that can be removed from rivers, andprioritise improvements to other obstacles that will yield thebiggest environmental improvements. Information on naturalobstacles will also be used to determine the natural limits tomovement for different species of fish.
iRecord Butterflies 1.1.3 APK
Butterflies are in trouble. A third of UK species are threatenedand three-quarters are in decline. Butterfly recording is thefoundation for protecting these beautiful creatures. The iRecordButterflies app helps you to identify the butterflies that you see,but also uses your sightings to help save butterflies. Sightingswill be stored within the “iRecord” website and passed onto the“Butterflies for the New Millennium” national recording scheme runby the charity Butterfly Conservation, with support from theBiological Records Centre. This long-running scheme has gatheredmillions of butterfly sightings that provide vital informationabout how the fortunes of butterflies have changed over thedecades. Your sightings will be used to understand the causes ofdecline and to inform conservation work on the ground to helpthreatened species. Scientists could not do this work without thehelp of people across the UK, like you, reporting when and wherethey find a species. Thank you for using iRecord Butterflies tohelp us protect these wonderful insects.
