Its story is full of the right kind of danger and intrigue,itstombs are dastardly, and I was as struck by its huge,romanticenvironments as I was as a kid playing the original.Although Icould have done with a few more puzzles and fewerfirefightsoverall, I enjoyed every rollicking, big-hearted secondofit.

Like its predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider revels inanever-so-slightly-sci-fi and ultimately very funhigh-conceptinvolving a hunt for an artifact that grants eternallife. It’sbroad, Indiana Jones stuff that gallops along at a greatclipthrough gloriously over-the-top sequences grounded with astrongemotional throughline.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is, at its core, about Lara and herlatefather, and actress Camilla Luddington’s thoughtful performanceasLara sells us on the complicated relationship she has withtheghosts he left behind.

Not that combat a chore. While its third-person shooting istheleast inspired aspect of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara cannowbuild nail bombs, smoke bombs, molotov cocktails, and specialammowhile on the fly, all of which can turn a mundane shootout intoapile of dead bodies in seconds. It’s a fun, vicious, andslightlyridiculous new ability which adds a great deal of varietyto enemyencounters.

Rise of the Tomb Raider’s much-touted stealthy approachratherredundant. While you do get XP bonuses for stealth takedownsandyou can hide in bushes and up trees, she’s such a potentfighterthat I didn’t find any real incentive to avoid combataltogether.It was much more enjoyable to cause as much destructionas possibleand gain bonuses for headshots and multiple kills usingacombination of crafted items and Lara’s significant arsenal.

Happily, playing with the latter is still nice and crunchy.Weaponsare upgradable based on parts you can find scatteredthroughout theworld, which injects new novelty into combat everyfew hours. Likein the last game, I found myself gravitating towardsthe shotgunand bow; the former for its lethal incendiary bullets,the latterfor its wide-reaching poison arrows. Lara’s as powerfulas aTerminator by the end of Rise of the Tomb Raider onstandarddifficulty mode, however - something to be considered whenchoosinghow you want to play.

Withthisshow being a reboot, I figured this was be a good place tojumpin.The show starts after the events of the original Saint Seiyaseriesas the Goddess Athena watches over and heals the world. Atthestart over the series, she is shown taking care of baby Kohgawhenshe is attacked by Mars. She is saved by the hero of thefirstseries, Seiya. This memory has become ingrained into Kohga andhehas since been trained to become a Saint in order toprotectAthena.Saint Seiya Omega is certainly a nice show to look at. Crisp,cleanvisuals with a character design that mixes modern ans theclassiclook at the older adaptations. There is plenty of hair, itfloatsaround in nice ways and Kohga can look a bit girly as times.Theanimation is nothing to write home about, but I was amusedwhenplanet altering powers get thrown around a bit. Finally,thecharacters are inoffensive, but Kohga can be a whiner.
