As Ayurveda puts it, our health is astate of ideal balance between three elemental substances (bodyenergies), which are called doshas, and a combination of body, mindand consciousness balance.According to Ayurveda, a human is a smallminiature of the Universe, and everything that exists in theUniverse is represented in human body in one form or another. Thediversity of essence in the Universe and in human being consists of5 elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether (Space). Fiveelements in pairs make three dynamic energies called doshas.Sanskrit word "dosha" means "something that changes" or "somethingthat can be out of balance". The correlation of doshas constantlychanges keeping up the dynamic balance. These doshas are calledVata (Ether+Air), Pitta (Fire+Water) and Kapha (Earth+Water).Everyperson is born with unique combination of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Itdetermines a person’s physical characteristics, his weak and strongpoints. Under the influence of external factors (climate, weather,age, nutrition, way of life etc.) the doshas balance in humanorganism may change. Every dosha should be necessarily balanced,i.e. dosha quantity coming from outside should be equal to doshaquantity coming out of organism. If dosha comes in excessivequantity, it accumulates in the organism and may cause diseases.Ayurvedic treatment is aimed at balancing doshas, i.e. at removingdoshas excesses (if any) and maintaining the balance in future.
