Description

Mandate The Canadian Association for Equality is committed toachieving equality for all Canadians, regardless of sex, sexualorientation, gender identity, gender expression, family status, race, ethnicity, creed, age or disability. In particular, we areinterested in gender equality, that is on achieving equality forall men, women, girls and boys. While we support all efforts atachieving gender equality, we will work for balance and fairnesswithin this societal project by focusing our limited resources onthose areas of gender which are understudied in contemporaryculture. This has led us to a current focus on the status, healthand well-being of boys and men, where attention, investment andsupport for educational and social programs stands at a level thatis far from equal to the seriousness of the problem, while alsobeing significantly underdeveloped compared to the resources inother important areas of social improvement. We provide currentevidence-based research and balanced information. We also provideopportunities to engage in furthering this cause by participatingin discussions, events and family-friendly activities. We sincerelybelieve the goal of true equality and human rights is best servedby conducting inclusive conversations based on facts and evidence, not by promoting ideology or special interest agendas. FrequentlyAsked Questions Is CAFE a Men’s Rights Group? CAFE is a humanrights group that advocates equality for all members of society. Our focus is currently on men and boys because that issue receivesmuch less attention than equal rights for women. We do not considerourselves a Men’s Rights Group because discrimination against menalso adversely affects many women including the daughters, mothers, sisters, partners and friends of male victims. Inequality canaffect anybody and should be everyone’s concern. Who are yourmembers? CAFE members are men and women from all walks of life whoshare a desire to look clearly and without prejudice at the statusof boys and men in Canada. While our advisors are drawn from a widerange of professions, most come from the academic community andrepresent a diverse assortment of fields of study. What are yourgoals? Our goal is to facilitate an inclusive, rational andcivilized public conversation about the status of boys and men inCanada. Topics we think should be discussed include mental &physical health, suicide, family law, education, public policy, workplace safety, media & cultural stereotypes, and misandry. We believe this conversation must be based on facts andevidence-based research and not on ideology, e.g. gender profilingthat assumes that only women can be victims and only men can be theperpetrators of abuse and discrimination. What are CAFE’sactivities? Our main focus is on identifying and providing balancedinformation on equality in Canada. CAFE also provides opportunitiesto participate in evidence-based research, discussions, events andfamily-friendly activities. Is CAFE associated with otherorganizations? CAFE is an independent organization and has noformal affiliation or association with any other organization. Ifother groups claim to undertake activities to support our effortsthat does not mean that CAFE has approved, endorsed, sponsored orcoordinated those activities. Are you anti-feminist? CAFE supportsequal rights for people of all sexes and genders, and activelyopposes both misandry and misogyny in all their forms. We are notanti-feminist. We find that generic labels such as feminist andmen’s rights groups are too limiting for conducting a productivesocial conversation about equality and justice. We do not believethat equal rights is a zero-sum game, and we reject the notion thatidentifying and eliminating discrimination against men and boyswill somehow increase discrimination against women and girls. Bydefinition, equal rights means equal rights for everyone.
