These extensions are standardized aswell in so called XEP’s. Conversations supports a couple of thoseto make the overall user experience better. There is a chance thatyour current XMPP server does not support these extensions. Therefore to get the most out of Conversations you should considereither switching to an XMPP server that does or - even better - runyour own XMPP server for you and your friends. These XEPs are - asof now: • XEP-0065: SOCKS5 Bytestreams (or mod_proxy65). Will beused to transfer files if both parties are behind a firewall (NAT).• XEP-0163: Personal Eventing Protocol for avatars • XEP-0191:Blocking command lets you blacklist spammers or block contactswithout removing them from your roster. • XEP-0198: StreamManagement allows XMPP to survive small network outages and changesof the underlying TCP connection. • XEP-0280: Message Carbons whichautomatically syncs the messages you send to your desktop clientand thus allows you to switch seamlessly from your mobile client toyour desktop client and back within one conversation. • XEP-0237:Roster Versioning mainly to save bandwidth on poor mobileconnections • XEP-0313: Message Archive Management synchronizemessage history with the server. Catch up with messages that weresent while Conversations was offline. • XEP-0352: Client StateIndication lets the server know whether or not Conversations is inthe background. Allows the server to save bandwidth by withholdingunimportant packages. • XEP-0363: HTTP File Upload allows you toshare files in conferences and with offline contacts. Quicksy is a spin off of the popular XMPP client Conversations withautomatic contact discovery. You sign up with your phone number andQuicksy will automatically—based on the phone numbers in youraddress book—suggest possible contacts to you.¹ Quicksy can bedownloaded for free from Google Play Store. The source code islicensed under the GPLv3 and available on Github. Under the hoodQuicksy is a full-fledged XMPP client that lets you communicatewith any user on any publicly federating server. Likewise users onQuicksy can be contacted from the outside simply by firstname.lastname@example.org to your contact list. Aside from thecontact sync the user interface is deliberately as close toConversations as possible. This allows users to eventually migratefrom Quicksy to Conversations without having to relearn how the appworks.
