Malamai suna cewa, fadin Allah “kadakukusanci zina,” kai matuka ne wajen hana ta, don ya fi a ce “kadakuyi zina.” The term zina is an Arabic word, which referstofornication and adultery, where a man involves in asexualintercourse with a woman to whom he is not lawfully married.Thisis regardless of the marital status of the parties involved. Ontheother hand, in English Language, the term fornication is usedwhenthe one involved is a single, whereas the term adultery isusedwhen any of the parties involved is a married person. Inotherwords, a couple may involve in zina, and one of them willbeconsidered to have committed fornication, and the other, tohavecommitted adultery. Zina comes in different forms. There’s thezinaof the hand, when one touches the opposite gender who is notḥalālfor him or her. There’s also the zina of the eye, where oneextendshis vision to that which is not ḥalāl for him or her. Also, there’sthe zina of the tongue, where one could ‘sweet-talk’ theoppositegender. We also have the zina of the ears, when we listento the‘sweet-talk’ of the opposite gender. All that or some of themcouldbe inevitable, as the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallamsaid. But the zina, which is discussed in this article is the majorzinawhere sexual organs are involved. Sexual organs’ involvementinzina is meant when penetration of the penis into the vaginatakesplace. This is commonly termed as intercourse. Isn’t it? Inaḥadīth reported by Imām al-Bukhārī and Muslim from the narrationofSayyidinā Abī Hurairah raḍiya Allāhu ‘anhu, the ProphetṣallāAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Allah has written for the sonofAdam his share of zina which he commits inevitably. The zina oftheeyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the zina ofthetongue is the talk. The inner self wishes and desires andtheprivate parts testify all this or deny it.”
