Ludhiana (ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ | लुधियाना) is a city and amunicipal corporation in Ludhiana district in the Indian state ofPunjab. It is the largest city in Punjab, with an estimatedpopulation of 25 lacs. The population increases substantiallyduring the crop harvesting season due to immigration of laborersfrom states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi. It has an area ofabout 310 km². The city stands on the Sutlej River's old bank, 13km south of its present course. Kotkapura is a historic city 50 kmfromBathinda, in the state of Punjab, India. It is the largest cityinthe Faridkot District and used to have one of the largestcottonmarkets in India. Kotkapura is also known for its railwaycrossinggate.Bhallan, founder of the Faridkot principality died issuelessin1643. He was succeeded by his nephew, Kapura Brar, who foundedthetown of Kotkapura in 1661. Nawab Kapura was the chaudhryofeighty-four villages. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th guru oftheSikhs, en route from Machhiwara, reached Kotkapura and askedKapurafor his fort to fight the pursuing Mughal army. Kapura was aSikh,but did not want to earn the ire of the Mughals by helpingGuruGobind Singh openly in his war with them and refused the forttothe guru.
