Orfox: Tor Browser for Android Fennec-52.9.0esr/TorBrowser-7.5-1/Orfox-1.5.4-RC-1
Orfox is built from the same source code as Tor Browser (which isbuilt upon Firefox), but with a few minor modifications to theprivacy enhancing features to make them compatible with Firefox forAndroid and the Android operating system.Orfox REQUIRES Orbot appfor Android to connect to the Tor network. In as many ways aspossible, we adhere to the design goals of Tor Browser(https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser/design/), bysupporting as much of their actual code as possible, and extendingtheir work into the additional Android components of Firefox forAndroid.** Also, includes NoScript and HTTPSEverywhere add-onsbuilt in!The Tor software protects you by bouncing yourcommunications around a distributed network of relays run byvolunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching yourInternet connection from learning what sites you visit, it preventsthe sites you visit from learning your physical location, and itlets you access sites which are blocked.Learn moreat:https://guardianproject.info/apps/orfox* * How is Orfoxdifferent than Tor Browser for desktop?* The Orfox code repositoryis at https://github.com/guardianproject/tor-browser and the TorBrowser repository ishere:https://gitweb.torproject.org/tor-browser.git/. The Orfoxrepository is a fork of the Tor Browser repository with thenecessary modification and Android-specific code as patches on topof the Tor Browser work. We will keep our repository in sync withupdates and release of Tor Browser.* Orfox is built from the TorBrowser repo based on ESR38(https://dev.guardianproject.info/issues/5146https://dev.guardianproject.info/news/221)and has only two modified patches that were not relevant ornecessary for Android* Orfox does not currently include the mobileversions of the Tor Browser * Button, but this we will be addedshortly, now that we have discovered how to properly supportautomatic installation of extensions on Android(https://dev.guardianproject.info/issues/5360)* Orfox currentlyallows for users to bookmark sites, and may have additional datawritten to disk beyond what the core gecko browser component does.We are still auditing all disk write code, and determining how toappropriately disable or harden it.(https://dev.guardianproject.info/issues/5437)* * How is Orfoxdifferent than Orweb?Orweb is our current default browser forOrbot/Tor mobile users (https://guardianproject.info/apps/orweb)that has been downloaded over 2 million times. It is VERY VERYSIMPLE, as it only has one tab, no bookmark capability, and anextremely minimal user experience.Orweb is built upon the bundledWebView (Webkit) browser component inside of the Android operatingsystem. This has proven to be problematic because we cannot controlthe version of that component, and cannot upgrade it directly whenbugs are found. In addition, Google has made it very difficult toeffectively control the network proxy settings of all aspects ofthis component, making it difficult to guarantee that traffic willnot leak on all devices and OS versions.Orweb also only provides avery limited amount of capability of Tor Browser, primarily relatedto reducing browser fingerprinting, minimizing disk writes, andcookie and history management. It trys to mimic some of thesettings of Tor Browser, but doesn’t actually use any of the actualcode written for Tor Browser security hardening.

OONI Probe 1.3.4
Collect evidence of Internet censorship. Measure the speed andperformance of your network. Play an active role in increasingtransparency of information controls around the world. By runningOONI Probe, you will examine the blocking of websites, yournetwork's speed and performance, and whether systems that could beresponsible for censorship and surveillance are in your network. These tests have been developed by the Open Observatory of NetworkInterference (OONI), a free software project (under The TorProject) that aims to uncover Internet censorship around the world.Since 2012, OONI has collected millions of network measurementsacross more than 190 countries, shedding light on multiple cases ofnetwork interference. By running OONI Probe, you will help increasetransparency of Internet censorship around the world. Collectingevidence of Internet censorship OONI's Web Connectivity test isdesigned to examine whether access to sites is blocked through DNStampering, TCP/IP blocking, or by a transparent HTTP proxy. Byrunning this test, you will collect data that can serve as evidenceof Internet censorship, and you will be provided with circumventiontips. Detecting systems responsible for censorship and surveillanceOONI's HTTP Invalid Request Line test is designed to uncover thepresence of systems that could be responsible for censorship andsurveillance. Measuring the speed and performance of your networkOONI's implementation of the Network Diagnostic Test (NDT) measuresthe speed of your network by connecting to M-Lab servers near youand by collecting low level TCP/IP information that can helpcharacterize the speed and performance of your network. Open dataOONI publishes all network measurement data that it collectsbecause open data allows third parties to conduct independentstudies, verify OONI findings and/or to answer other researchquestions. Such data also helps increase transparency of Internetcensorship around the world. All data is published on OONIExplorer: https://explorer.ooni.torproject.org/ Free software AllOONI tests, as well as its NDT implementation, are based on freeand open source software.
