Parachute Rigger Handbook: This operationalhandbook introduces the basic skills necessary for acquiring aparachute rigger certificate. It is developed by the FlightStandards Service, Airman Testing Standards Branch, in cooperationwith various aviation educators and industry. This handbook isprimarily intended to assist individuals who are preparing for theparachute rigger airman knowledge test and the oral and practicaltest. The material presented in this handbook is appropriate forsenior and master parachute riggers. The handbook containsinformation on regulations and human factors, design andconstruction, materials, operations, inspection and packing, handtools, sewing machines, the parachute loft, repairs, alterations,and manufacture. This handbook conforms to training andcertification concepts established by the Federal AviationAdministration (FAA). There are different ways of teaching, as wellas performing specific rigging procedures, and many variations inthe explanations of repairs, alterations, and manufacture ofparachutes. The discussion and explanations reflect commonly usedpractices and principles.
