Founded in 1992 by ambassador and banker Walther Moreira Salles(1912-2001), the Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS) is a non-profitcivil organization. Its goal is to promote the development ofcultural projects mainly in four different areas: mainlyPhotography, but also Music, Literature, and Iconography. IMS alsopromotes exhibitions of Brazilian and foreign artists.The IMS hascultural centers in three cities – Poços de Caldas, Rio de Janeiro,and São Paulo – and, besides exhibition catalogues and books ofphotography, literature, and music, it also publishes the magazinesZUM, dedicated to contemporary photography, and serrote, withessays and ideas.
