WhereasinKombat X the fighting and playing is just a pathway to get totheresult – it's the Fatality you want to see and you almost wanttoskip the fighting bit and get to the Fatality because that istheresult.

The graphics in Final Ultimate Bout are amixedbag. The characters themselves look decent and remainfaithful tothe animated series' artwork, but the backgrounds areabsolutelyhorrible. In some cases, the playing field is nothingmore than aflat, green plane with nothing in the distance. Thecharactersanimate decently, although the entire game moves at afairly slowpace. The only saving grace of the game's appearanceare the greatlooking projectile attacksAlso, when the other player counters with a huge blast of hisown,the two projectiles collide, and the camera spins around asthebeams battle for dominance. The characters aren't very diverse,duein part to the series' rather convoluted timeline, and resultsinFinal Ultimate Bout containing four different incarnations ofsomecharacters, each from a different part of the series. So whileyoucan choose between 17 characters (see the codes section for infoonhow to get more than the original eight characters), most ofthemare nearly identical.The gameplay in this title is truly atrocious. There is a reallackof variety in the game's moves, with each character having apunch,kick, block, fireball, a few special fireballs, and somenormalspecials, like pieces punches and the like. The game comes toacomplete stop whenever a special energy blast is used and givestheopponent a chance to counter the attack with an energy blast ofhisown, but the system is totally flawed. During the firstplayer'swarm-up motions, the word counter flashes on the screen fora splitsecond. When it appears, the opponent has a chance to hitdifferentbuttons. Depending on what he hits, the opponent can blocktheblast, absorb the blast, or counter with a blast of hisown,resulting in the impressive projectile battle mentioned above.Thecharacters in the world of Final Ultimate Bout can fly at will,butwhen you stop flying, the character simply takes hisstandingposition in midair. This, well, just looks silly.

Also, with the exceptionofGuile, the remaining characters introduced in Super Turbo, T.Hawk,Dee Jay and Fei Long, were added to the selectableroster.Completing certain requirements in World Tour mode alsounlocksGuile, Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma. Along with the sameadditions asthe PlayStation version, the Dreamcast and Saturnversions addedGuile and Evil Ryu to the default roster.
