The Golden GooseThere was a man who had three sons. The youngestwas simply called simpleton, and was despised, laughed at, andneglected on every occasion.It happened one day that the eldest sondecided to go into the forest to cut wood. Before he went, hismother gave him a delicious pancake and a flask of wine.In theforest, he met a little old man who asked him for some food andwater, but the reluctant youth refused and just left. When he cameto cut down a tree, it hit him and wounded his arm so that he hadto go home. This was all the little old man’s doing.Later, thesecond son went into the wood. The little old man asked him forfood too, but he behaved just like his brother. The punishment soonfollowed; as he was chopping away at a tree, he hit his leg sobadly that he had to be carried home.Then, the simpleton begged hisfather to let him go into the wood and his father agreed because heneeded logs. When he got to the wood, the simpleton met the littleman and joyfully shared his food with him.The little man said, "Asyou have such a kind heart, I will bestow good luck upon you. Cutdown an old tree and at its roots you will find something."Thesimpleton did as the old man said and found a goose with feathersof pure gold. He lifted it out and took it with him to an inn wherehe planned to stay the night.The landlord had three daughters whowere all curious to know what this wonderful kind of bird was. Whenthe simpleton went to bed, the eldest daughter grabbed the goose byits wing but her hand became magically stuck to the goose.Soonafter, came the second and third sister with the same idea, but aseach touched the other sister, they too became stuck.The nextmorning, the simpleton tucked the goose under his arm and left, notnoticing the three girls being dragged behind. A priest saw themand tried to drag the youngest girl away but he quickly becamestuck to her and was forced to follow after them.Not long afterthis, a church official was passing and saw the priest following atthe heels of the three girls. He grabbed hold of the priest’s robebut, as soon as he touched it, he too became stuck and was forcedto follow the group.The priest cried out to two peasants and beggedthem to come and help free him and the church official but as soonas they touched, the peasants had to followtoo....--------------------------------------------------------Wehope you enjoy this book. When helanded, he saw a beautiful castle before him, and set out to reachit.When he entered it, he found that it was bewitched. When hereached the last room, he saw a snake. The snake was an enchantedmaiden who rejoiced to see him.She said, “Twelve black men willcome and ask what you are doing here. They will beat you, but donot speak and let everything pass. At twelve o'clock they must goaway. After three days like that I shall be released.”Andeverything happened just as she said. On the third night the snakebecame a beautiful princess again. The boys allmade jackasses of themselves by becoming real donkeys to go andwork in salt mines and circuses.Jiminy ran back to warn Pinocchio.They managed to escape with Pinocchio only having a donkey's earsand tail.Upon returning home, Pinocchio and Jiminy found theworkshop empty.They learned through a message from the Blue Fairythat Geppetto had left to search for Pinocchio with Leo and Figaro.Their boat had been swallowed up by a giant whale namedMonstro.Determined to rescue his father, Pinocchio jumped into thesea, with Jiminy accompanying him. She again struck a match against the wall and, inthe brightness, stood her old grandmother. Her grandmother hadnever appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girlin her arms and they both flew upwards towards the heavens. In thedawn of the following morning, the poor little girl was stillhuddled in the corner. She had pale white cheeks and her face wassmiling. She was still clutching the matches in her hand and beenfrozen on that last evening of the year.
