Pakistani National Anthem Info:

The Qaumi Tarana is the National Anthem of Pakistan. The words"Qaumi Tarana" in Urdu literally translate to "National Anthem".The Pakistani national anthem is unique in that its music precededits lyrics, which are in Persian. At independence, on August 14,1947, Pakistan had a different national anthem written by Prof.Jagannath Azad, who had been asked by the Quaid, Mr. Mohammed AliJinnah, to write the very first national anthem of Pakistan. Prof.Azad’s aa sarzameen paak was, in fact, Pakistan’s first nationalanthem, until it was later replaced by the current anthem. The flagitself had only been approved by the Constituent Assembly ofPakistan three days earlier. The current national anthem of Pakistanwas written by a Muslim writer named Abu-Al-Asar HafeezJullundhri.

In early 1948, A. R. Ghani from Transvaal, South Africa, offeredtwo prizes of five thousand rupees each for the poet and composerof a new national anthem. The prizes were announced through aGovernment press note published in June 1948. In December 1948, aNational Anthem Committee (NAC) was formed, initially chaired bythe Information Secretary, Sheikh Muhammad Ikram. Committee membersincluded several politicians, poets and musicians such as Abdur RabNishtar, Ahmed Chagla and Hafeez Jullundhri. The committee had somedifficulty at first in finding suitable music and lyrics.

In 1950, the impending state visit of the Shah of Iran resultedin the Government asking the NAC to submit an anthem without delay. The committee chairman, Federal Minister for Education, FazlurRahman, asked several poets and composers to write lyrics but noneof the submitted works were deemed suitable. The NAC also examinedseveral different tunes and eventually selected the one presentedby Chagla and submitted it for formal approval. Chagla produced themusical composition in collaboration with another committee memberand assisted by the Pakistan Navy band.

The music of the anthem was composed by Ahmed Ghulamali Chagla, with lyrics written by Abu-Al-Asar Hafeez Jullundhri. The threestanza composition was officially adopted in 1954. However, themusic for the anthem had been composed in 1950 and had been used onseveral occasions before official adoption. The composition isunique in a way that no part of the anthem repeats itself. Thelyrics allude to a "Sacred Land" referring to Pakistan and a "Flagof the Crescent and Star" referring to the national flag.Unofficially, the anthem is sometimes referred to by its first line"Pak sarzamin shad bad" (Urdu: "Blessed be the sacred land"). Thenational anthem is played during any event involving the hoistingof the flag.

The anthem without lyrics was performed for Prime MinisterLiaquat Ali Khan and later for the National Anthem Committee onAugust 10, 1950. Although it was approved for playing during thevisit of the Shah, official recognition was not given until August1954.[5] The anthem was also played during the Prime Minister'svisit to the United States. The NAC distributed records of thecomposed tune amongst prominent poets, who responded by writing andsubmitting several hundred songs for evaluation by the NAC.Eventually, the lyrics written by Jullundhri were approved and thenew national anthem was first played properly on Radio Pakistan onAugust 13, 1954. Official approval was announced by the Ministry ofInformation and Broadcasting on August 16, 1954.

JanaGana Mana was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as theIndian national anthem on January 24, 1950.The original poemwritten by Rabinder Nath Tagore was translated into Hindi by AbidAli. The original hindi version of the song Jana Gana Mana, translated by Ali and based on the poem by Tagore, was a littledifferent. It was "Sukh Chain Ki Barkha Barase, Bharat Bhagya HaiJaga....". The music for the present National Anthem was composedby Captain Ram Singh Thakur of the Subhash Chandra Bose led IndianNational Army, as Qaumi Tarana of the INA at Singapore in 1943.Jana Gana Mana was officially adopted by the Constituent Assemblyas the Indian national anthem on January 24, 1950.A formalrendition of the national anthem takes fifty-two seconds. Ashortened version consisting of the first and last lines (andtaking about 20 seconds to play) is also staged occasionally.Tagore wrote down the English translation of the song and alongwith Margaret Cousins (an expert in European music and wife ofIrish poet James Cousins), set down the notation which is followedtill this day. It is of interest that another poem by Tagore (AmarShonar Bangla) is the national anthem of Bangladesh.Tags: Indian,Hindi, India, Top-Ten Must Have, Bharat, Bharati, Desi

The song marked the birth of the all-archipelagonationalist movement in Indonesia that supported the idea of onesingle "Indonesia" as successor to the Dutch East Indies, ratherthan split into several colonies. The first stanza of Indonesia Raya was chosen as the nationalanthem when Indonesia proclaimed its independence at 17 August1945.Indonesia Raya is played in flag raising ceremonies. The flag israised in a solemn and timed motion so that it reaches the top ofthe flagpole as the anthem ends. The main flag raising ceremony isheld annually on 17 August to commemorate Independence day. Theceremony is led by the President of Indonesia. In 1928, youths from across Indonesia held the first IndonesianYouth Congress, an official meeting to push for the independence ofthe nation. Upon hearing about the efforts, young reporter WageRudolf Supratman contacted the organizers of Congress with theintention of reporting the story, but they requested that he notpublish the story from fear of Dutch colonial authorities. Theorganizers wanted to avoid suspicion so that the Dutch would notban the event. Supratman promised them this, and the organizersallowed him free access to the event. Supratman, who was also amusician and also a teacher, was inspired by the meetings andintended to write a song for the conference. After receivingencouragement from the conference leader Sugondo Djojopuspito,Supratman played on the violin the song Indonesia with the hopethat it would someday become a national anthem. He kept the scriptto himself because he felt that it was not the appropriate time toannounce it.Supratman first performed Indonesia on the violin on 28 October1928 during the Second Indonesian Youth Congress.

The partition took effect on 16 October 1905. This divideof Bengal was along communal lines — East Bengal had a majority ofMuslims, while West Bengal had a majority of Hindus. This partitionis claimed to have undermined India's national movement againstBritish imperialism, and is said to have been politicallymotivated. This song, along with a host of others, was written byTagore, a pioneer of the cultural and political movement againstthis partition. These songs were meant to rekindle the unifiedspirit of Bengal, to raise public consciousness against thecommunal, political divide. The lyrics first appeared in theSeptember issues of "Bongodorshon" and "Baul" simultaneously, in1905. The song along with the musical notation (referred to asswaralipi in Bengali), first appeared in the periodical musicaljournal Shongeet Biggnan Probeshika in the same month and year.Indira Devi, Tagore's niece, Satyendranath Tagore's daughter, jotted down the musical notation hearing it from Tagore himself(this was the common norm, Tagore singing the song, and someoneformally jotting down the musical notations). It is said that themusic of this song was inspired by the Baul singer Gagan Harkara'ssong "Ami Kothay Pabo Tare". (কোথায় পাবো তারে)[2]The first 10lines of this song constitute the national anthem of Bangladesh. Itwas adopted in 1972 after the independence of Bangladesh. TheEnglish translation was done by Syed Ali Ahsan.=====DISCLAIM:Themusic used in this app is NOT a original work of the app author orSanjaal Corps. The song was written and composed by the Ananda Samarakoonin 1940, and was later adopted as the national anthem in 1951. Itwas written when Sri Lanka was still a British colony and wasinitially written as a tribute to Sri Lanka, expressing sentimentsof freedom, unity and independence, and not for the purpose ofserving as a national anthem. The song however became very popularthroughout the 1940s and when Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948it was chosen to be the national anthem, 3 years later. The firstindependence day it was sung was in 1952. Ananda Samarakoon wasRabindranath Tagore's student and the tune is influenced byTagore's genre of music. The song was officially adopted as thenational anthem of Ceylon on November 22, 1951, by a committeeheaded by Sir Edwin Wijeyeratne. The anthem was translated into theTamil language by M. Nallathamby. The first line of the anthemoriginally read: Namo Namo Matha, Apa Sri Lanka. There was somecontroversy over these words in the 1950s, and in 1961 they werechanged to their present form, Sri Lanka Matha, Apa Sri Lanka, without Samarakoon's consent. Samarakoon committed suicide in 1962apparently due to the change in words. The Second RepublicanConstitution of 1978 gave Sri Lanka Matha constitutionalrecognition. The Sri Lankan national anthem is one of a number thatare sung in more than one language: Canada (English, French &Inuktitut), Belgium (French, Dutch & German), Switzerland(German, French, Italian & Romansh), South Africa (Xhosa, Zulu,Sesotho, Afrikaans & English), Suriname (Dutch and SrananTongo), and New Zealand (English & Maori). The majority of SriLankans (more than 80%) speak the Sinhala language and the Sinhalaversion is mainly used in Sri Lanka for public and private events. This version is the only version used during international sportsand other events. Due to popularity of the song and it's richmeaning, it's being translated into several other languages.Although the Sinhala version of the anthem is used atofficial/state events, the Tamil translation is also sung at someevents. The Tamil translation is used at official events held inthe Tamil speaking regions in the North and East of Sri Lanka. TheTamil translation is sung at Tamil medium schools throughout thecountry. The Tamil translation was used even during the period whenSinhala was the only official language of the country (1956 -87).The Sri Lankan anthem's tune is similar to a Hindu devotionalsong Jai Jagdish Hare. But No references still known about theco-incidence between both them. It is said that on AnandaSamarakoon's request, Rabindranath Tagore wrote this song inBengali, later translated by Ananda into Sinhala language.
