SITE ASSESS is a free, secure mobile application (app) designedspecifically for education agencies allows personnel to walk aroundbuildings and grounds and examine their safety, security,accessibility, and emergency preparedness. Users select whetherthey are conducting a site assessment at a K-12 school orinstitution of higher education (IHE) and are directed to thesection that is optimized for that setting according to its uniquecharacteristics. This site assessment app generates a customizedto-do list that may be used in the short term and long term toaddress facility improvements, prompts teams to share pertinentinformation with first responders, and contains relevant resourceson several education facility and preparedness topics. TheReadiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) TechnicalAssistance (TA) Center, administered by the U.S. Department ofEducation’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students, developed SITEASSESS to do the following: - Store images directly within the app;- Provide critical information about potential threats and hazards,which may be used by the planning team as they develop the site’semergency operations plan; - Allow teams to add customizedquestions to and delete preloaded questions from the siteassessment for their use, taking into account state and localrequirements; - Export data into a Word document or Excel worksheetfor data aggregation and analysis and/or recordkeeping; - Equippractitioners with information and knowledge about fundamental siteassessment topics, such as Crime Prevention Through EnvironmentalDesign (CPTED) and universal design; - Collect information thatwill aid IHE personnel with fulfilling Jeanne Clery Disclosure ofCampus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Actrequirements; and - Complement and support mitigation, prevention,protection, recovery, and response activities. Neither the REMS TACenter nor the U.S. Department of Education will see, collect, orstore any data users enter into SITE ASSESS, besides the basiccontact information that is collected upon initial registration.Any and all information entered into the mobile app is stored onthe mobile device and not on the REMS TA Center’s or U.S.Department of Education’s Website or server. As such, the U.S.Department of Education and the REMS TA Center are not responsiblefor any damages resulting from the loss or theft of thatinformation. Please note that certain optional mobile app featuresmay transmit data.
