The central office of the TNEB was established alongtheSivanthipatty road at Thiagarajanagar during 1970. Due toitsestablishment many new colonies like the EBcolony,Thiagarajanagar, TVS Nagar, LIC Colony, P&T Colony etc.sprungup around this office. Many catholic families also bought thehousesites in this area and they settled in their houses. But astherewas no Catholic Church in this area the catholic had to go bybusor other way for Sunday Mass and other religious functions toSt.Xavier’s Cathedral, St. Xavier’s College Church, and SacredHeartChurch of the Brothers Union etc. So the faithful approvedtheparish priest of St. Xavier’s Cathedral Rev. Fr. Maria Michaelandasked him to say mass in that area. The father said he was willtosay mass provided there was a proper place in that area. Itwasalmost the end of December 1981. They were looking for houseandcame across a small house, which was owned, by the diocese. AndoneMr. Rayappaan a catholic was staying in the house. Whenthefaithful approached him for saying holy mass he was ready tovacatethe house. So he extended the area of the house by erectionof thethatched roofing pandal and got electric supply to thepremiseswithin three days. Father was very happy about thisactivity andthe First Mass said in the thatched roofing Church wastheChristmas Mass and Rev. Fr. Maria Michael said it at 2 am on25thDecember 1981. From then onwards the regular Sunday mass inthemorning and novena in favor of the patron of St. Jude followedbyholy mass said at 6.30 pm on all Thursday. Many miracles tookplaceto devotees. One of such incident was a boy was admitted totheGovt. Hospital at the high ground and he was almost sinking.Hisfather came to the church washed the foot of St. Jude’s Statusandgave the boy to drink the water. To his surprise the boyrecoveredmiraculously and finally he was discharged from thehospital in ahealthy condition. After Fr. Maria Michael, Fr. SusaiMarian whothe Procurator of the diocese saw the response of thepeople, andsaid the mass in that church on all days of the weekexcept onTuesday and Fridays. As church was overflowing on Sundays,heextended the church with RCC Roofing to accommodate about400people. At the time a carpenter by name Madasamy has swellingonboth his knees and he was unable to walk. He plucked some neemtreeleaves in the neem tree, which is in front of the church keptinthe foot of St. Jude’s Statue and then applied on his knees. Tohissurprise the swelling disappeared and the following day he wastowalk. Many miracles have taken place. Rev. Fr. Susai Marianwasmade the 1st Parish Priest on 1st June 1998. The painting of Sahaya Matha depicted amidsttwo arc Angels, conveys hope and an assurance of help to all thosewho in identical circumstances appeal to her. A plea in her eyescan be witnessed which communicates the message stating, not tohurt her Son, more by sin and thereby she shall help them by Hisgoodness. With the help of 9 Church Council Members, Rev. Fr.Jeyapathy initiated the maiden Holy Mass in a small hamlet on 25thDecember 1969.In spite of many hurdles, Rev.Fr.Durai Raj, the thenParish Priest marched ahead by inviting Rev.Fr.Adaikalam to lay thefoundation stone for constructing a new church on 14-07-1973. Dueto various reasons the delayed church construction was completedwith the enormous help of Rev.Fr.ArokiyaSwamy and blessed with HolyMass by Most.Rev.S.Irutharaj Bishop of Tirunelveli, on 31-10-1976.On 04-04-1986, the Most.Rev.S.Irutharaj, Bishop of Tirunelvelideclared the independence of this Jawahar Nagar Parish as 25thParish of Tirunelveli Diocese on the occasion of his silver jubileeORDINATION. A meaningful GROTTO, erected by Rev.Fr.Sagayadasan,attracts people irrespective of their religious belief.Rev.Fr.Anthony Sawmy took enormous effort to reconstruct theentrance of the church from Northern to Southern side with 2remarkable belfry on either side that summed around 50 Lakh wasblessed by Most.Rev.Jude Paul Raj, Bishop of Tirunelveli on25-02-2001. At present, this Parish consists of 600 families with1300 members and 6 sub stations divided into 12 Basic Christiancommunities to serve the needy and the Parish. Under the guidanceof many eminent Parish Priests, the church plays a vital role inthe growth of spiritual development of its member’s life and thesociety.
