Gokuldham Society is a residential Society in Mumbai in whichsix Indian families, respectively headed by Jethalal ChampaklalGada, Taarak Mehta, Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide, Dr. Hansraj Hathi,Sardar Roshan Singh Harjeet Singh Sodhi and Krishnan SubramaniamIyer live. There are also other individual characters like Patrakarpoptalal Pandey, Sundarlal, Abdul, Pinku, Natwarlal PrabhashankarUdhaiwala, Bagheshwar Dadukh Udhaiwala, Bawri and others.Themembers of these families have keen psychological attachment oflove and sympathy for one another that makes them the members of asuppositious greater family. In the episodes of the show, thefamilies are shown to live a life that a typical Indian familylives, but the characters, more often than not Jethalal, get intopetty troubles cropping up from daily life activities thatintensify in a comical manner, giving rise to laughter among theviewers. Humour in the show is further heightened by the individualquirks of the characters. Whatever be the nature of the problemthat a member of the Society encounters, all the other membersstand by them through thick and thin to extend every possible help.In an episode, the cessation of the problem that a character facesis usually followed by a moral commentary by Taarak Mehta meant forall the characters of the show as well as the viewers.
