Description

One of the most common job a robot isrequiredto do is navigating an environment. This application letyouspecify some target points (with colors) and the Wheelphonewillnavigate the environment looking for these targetssequentiallywhile avoiding obstacles. It has two modules to avoidtheobstacles: the first is using the robot's front proximitysensorsand the second using the camera (optical flow).
Blob detection is performed using the OpenCV library.
How to interact with the application: add at least two targetsandthen tap on "start". This makes the robot go between allthetargets in its list, while avoiding the obstacles.

Wheelphone makes a tour of the apartment taking snapshot picturesand then returns back to the charging station. This applicationshows the potentiality of the Wheelphone robot in an homeenvironment. With the help of some target points identified withdifferent markers, the Wheelphone robot is able to navigate fromone room to the other localizing itself; moreover it takes picturesand uploads them to a web page. When the Wheelphone battery is lowit can automatically charge itself thanks to the docking station.There are two tabs: one illustrates some sensors values, the targetdetection information (direction and orientation), the currentstate of the robot and some others information; the second oneshows the camera view and when a frame target is detected a niceaugmented reality letter is visualized. The application is designedfor the following sequence: 1) the robot moves around looking forthe docking station; once detected it approaches the dockingstation and charges itself for a while 2) the robot goes out of thecharger, takes a picture and then looks around for the first marker(living room); once detected it goes towards the marker until itreaches it, rotates 180 degrees and takes a picture 3) the robotlooks for the next target (kitchen); once detected it goes towardsthe marker and takes a picture. Then the sequence is repeated. Inthe "Robot" tab you can see the HTTP address to which to connect inorder to see the pictures taken by the robot. The Wheelphone robot has the opportunity to charge itselfautomatically with the help of the docking station. Thisapplication is an example of using frame targets detection to letthe robot reach the docking station and charge itself.
