Beginning Blends Word Builder is designed tohelp children learn about the beginning blends word sounds.The app features the blends Bl, Cl, Cr, Dr, Fr, Gr, Pl, Pr, Sn,and Tr.For each beginning sound the student selects, there is list ofending sounds. After choosing a beginning and ending sound,clicking the "Read" button will display the new word, an imagerepresenting the word (so, a picture of a snail for the word snail)and will play the word. Working speakers (usually built in) or aheadset are required to hear the sound. The app contains 100different word combinations, sound files, and images. Touch switch is a button that when pressed displays one for 10random stimulating videos accompanied by one of 14 random musicalselections. Video and music will play for a user specified amountof time, regardless of how often the screen is accidentally touchedduring that time. After the time elapses you are returned to thebutton, that you must touch again to reactivate it. The touchableactivation area is actually larger than the button. The actual areacovers almost all of the screen, to accommodate users with lesserdeveloped motor skills. The button provides a good instance ofcause and effect. You hit the button => you see a stimulatingvideo and hear music. It's great for encouraging the user to takethe action of touching the screen. It also serves as a reward forhigher level users. You do a math problem, you get to touch thebutton. You walk across the balance beam, you get to touch thebutton. In the settings, a user can customize the duration of themusic and video. The options are 7 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds,45 seconds and 60 seconds. You can customize the text on thebutton. By default the button is blank, but you can enter text inthe user preferences section to add a label such as "Go" or"Johnny" or "Push". From the settings menu you can choose to rotatethe button to a landscape view. The button does not rotate on thefly to prevent rotate-stimming. You can also change the app'svolume in the user preferences.
