Following on from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884-5) Tom SawyerAbroad (1894) became one of Mark Twain's most popular books. Againwe meet his world famous characters: Tom Sawyer, Nigger Jim, andHuck Finn - together now on a fantastical balloon journey acrossthe Atlantic to meet lions and Bedouins in the Sahara and retracesomething of Twain's own expedition to the Holy Land in hisbest-selling The Innocents Abroad (1869). Later, in Tom SawyerDetective (1896), Twain returns us the banks of the Mississippi anda murder mystery involving identical twins and stolen diamonds. Theauthor is back in his formative territory, the region hisimagination could never leave behind. It provides him with anothercomedy of human foibles starring the irrepressible TomSawyer.
