♪ What does it do? Air Waves is a "one to many" localradiobroadcasting service which could be used for many things suchaslive translations for an audience, a baby monitor or a2-wayintercom/walkie-talkie. Prior to creating this app, we hadlookedinto alternatives. The translation system we needed forEcclesiaMission Hills church (translation service) was almost$8,000. Thatincluded only a transmitting station, microphones and 4headsetdevices. With Air Waves, we paid (in $AUD): • wireless N150router($60) • $120 for x2 cheap Android phones to test our setupwith •$20 for x2 in-ear Sony headphones • $0 to bring your ownadditionallistening device So for $200 we've provided the sameservice whichan $8,000 system would have, except Air Waves iseasier to set upand far cheaper if we need more headsets. ♪ How touse it? Itdoesn't get much simpler than this! • Broadcaster: Clickon themicrophone to start broadcasting immediately. • Listener:Simplyclick on the headphone icon and choose the channel (orlanguage)you want. Note: all devices need to be on the same WiFinetwork. ♪Advanced usage • Press menu to set your device name •Press menu toenable/disable audio playback via headset (forspeaker) ♪ Hardwarerequired • At least 2 Android 4.1+ devices • Arouter with wirelesscapabilities (preferably at least N standard) •(optional) Someheadphones and/or microphone for better audioquality ♪ Notes I'veonly tested on a handful of phones, simplybecause I can't affordto buy every phone in the market. Seebelow for a detailed breakdown. • There isnoticeably less audiolatency on Android +4.1 devices as Google hasfixed up some audioprocessing issues and again in Android 6 • Ifyou use a hands freemicrophone, the microphone used will affectrecording quality.(Garbage in = garbage out) • Each broadcastingdevice has differentmethods of noise cancellation.
