The Precision Strobe Tuner main screenfeaturesare the Spectrum Display, the Note Dial and the StrobeDisplay.

The central Spectrum Display shows the input spectrumwrappedaround the Display, with each Octave drawn in a separatecolor. TheNote Dial is marked like a clock with the twelve notes oftheScale. All overtones of the input are shown as peaks intheSpectrum Display pointing towards their corresponding Notes.TheFundamental Indicator Tic on the Spectrum Display shows the Noteofthe Fundamental along the Note Dial, with the color designatingtheOctave. Use the Spectrum Display for coarse adjustment bytuningthe Fundamental to the center of the desired NoteIndicator.

As the input approaches the desired Note, a Two Grouppinwheelpattern becomes visible rotating in the Strobe Display.Fine tuningis accomplished by adjusting to stop rotation. TheStrobe Displayresponds instantaneously to changes in pitch and isextremelysensitive. The outside Strobe Display works just like aclassicrotating disk strobe tuner. The Two Group pattern rotatesCCW whenthe input is flat, and CW when sharp. When the rotation isstopped, the note is in tune.

One screenshot shows the display tuning a Guitar Low Estring. The Fundamental appears as an Orange peak in the SpectrumDisplay. This string rings bright, so the overtones are alsodominant in theDisplay. Several other screenshots show the displayfor otherGuitar Strings.

Another screenshot shows the display for an E 440 TuningForkwith the Calibration Dial enabled and set. This Fork is 1.3centFlat.

The PST also includes a Programable Temperament Function with5user definable banks. The final screenshot shows an example ofaTemperament Bank setup to a typical Piano Stretch Curve. Thiscanalso be used for tuning alternate temperaments, pedal steelguitarsetups, or special guitar intonation systems.

In addition, there are several Special Measurement Banks usedforString Inharmonicity characterization and Piano StretchCurveCalculation. Individual strings are characterized by measuringtheFundamental and 2nd Harmonic separately. By careful selection ofafew representative measurement points, a reasonable smoothfitPiano Stretch Curve can be generated. Any number of measurementsupto C7 can be used.
