Pois, a história do Festival confunde-se com a conclusãodas obras da estrada.Acompanhei o estágio final da construção, já que, na época, fuicontratado pela Ong Amazonlink.Org para fazer um vídeo sobre ainiciativa MAP, a sigla dos três Estados fronteiriços que seriamafetados diretamente pela grande obra amazônica: Madre de Dio-Peru,Acre-Brasil e Pando-Bolívia. Na oportunidade, conheci muita genteinteressante, como o Padre René que vivia em Ibéria – PE edenunciava os grandes impactos que a obra, inegavelmente, causariana região.Desmatamento. Êxodo de trabalhadores dos andes para a selva.Prostituição Infantil. Aumento da mineração. Crescimentodesordenado das cidades, entre tantos outros. Muito discutia-sesobre os impactos negativos e sobre os negócios, e pouco se pensavana potencialidade do intercâmbio cultural e crescimento da economiacriativa que a estrada poderia fomentar. Países tão próximos,porém, que viviam de costas um para o outro.Em 2009, fiz uma grande viagem por toda Bolívia. Na ocasião,conheci um cinema e um país incrível que eu desconhecia quase porcompleto. Em minha época de faculdade, estudei os grandes diretoresbrasileiros, europeus e americanos e, praticamente, nada de cinemalatino. No salar de Yuni, entre deserto, sal e cactos, a ideia doPachamama – Cinema de Fronteira começa a ser formulada. Um festivalque pudesse discutir temas comuns, promover a fruição de filmeslatinos e o intercâmbio cultural. Porém, não sabia por ondecomeçar.Em um destes encontros que a vida promove – pois assim tem deser, no final de 2009 fui representar o Fest Cineamazônia, tambémnosso parceiro e incentivador, no Festival de Atibaia e conheci oboliviano Marcelo Cordero, ativista cultural e criador da YanemaraiFilms. Ali, graças a este encontro, nasceu, de fato, o Pachamama –Cinema de Fronteira. Era preciso um espaço de encontro eintegração, uma plataforma regional para a nossa produção. Aestrada deveria ser um caminho de reencontro e Rio Branco umavitrine de apresentação de nossos produtos culturais para a regiãofronteiriça. Em 2010, na sua primeira edição, reinauguramos o CineRecreio, nosso principal ponto de exibição. Nesses cinco anos,ainda não encontramos seu formato ideal – creio que nuncaencontraremos. Porém, temos buscado, a cada edição, ganhar maisfôlego, dialogar com a realidade regional, trazer temas pertinentesao mundo que nos cerca, promover o nosso cinema – este desconhecido– homenagear nomes significativos da cinematografia latina, comatenção especial a indígena, fazer uma ponte entre a arte e osmovimentos socioambientais, se aproximar da academia, formar umarede de distribuição e promoção, firmar parcerias com outras açõese festivais, descentralizar e democratizar cada vez mais as nossasações, refletir a identidade amazônica/andina, contribuir naformação dos profissionais locais e atuar na formação do olharplural.Finalizo com a certeza de que só chegamos nestes cinco anos,sendo o Festival reconhecido pela revista LatAm de Cinema como umdos 25 festivais mais promissores do mundo, pois muita genteacreditou neste sonho.
