About MGR

Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran popularly known as MGR, was anIndianactor and politician who served as Chief Minister of TamilNadu forten years between 1977 and 1987.

MGR is a cultural icon in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, whereheis regarded as one of the most influential actors of the Tamilfilmindustry.

Ramachandran made his film debut in 1936, in the filmSathiLeelavathi,directed by Ellis Dungan, an American-bornfilmdirector.

Generally starring in romance or action films, MGR got hisbigbreakthrough in the 1950 film Manthiri Kumari, written byM.Karunanidhi
