Offering humane and practical functions andisin accordance with the noise impact specified by EPA andtheoccupational regulations specified by Department of Labor,NoiseCatcher helps people better understand what kind ofenvironmentthey are exposed to, how to judge the noise level andwhatappropriate actions to take in order to protect hearing.
In average, people are more relaxed and calm under noise levelbelow50 dB. They will be more focused and are more pleasant (whenwecommunicate with each other, the noise level is around 50 dB to60dB). When noise level reaches 70 dB, people start to lose focus,andare more anxious and nervous. If they are constantly exposedtonoise level above 85 dB with no protective measures, hearing canbeseverely damaged.

Passive System Alliance (PSA) Charitable Foundations havebeencaring for the hearing impaired children since founded.Statisticsshows that there are 3 out of a thousand infants who areborn withhearing loss worldwide. In Taiwan, there are estimated 300infantswith severe hearing loss, while 95% of them can stillregainhearing and speaking abilities with stimulus listeningequipmentand enough training. Therefore, hopefully through hearingaid andequipment donation and with professional and continuoustraining,every hearing impaired child can listen clearlyagain.
n 2012, “Reduce Noise, Provide Silence” program has become PSA’snewfocus. In order for everyone in the society to reallyunderstand theimportance of noise pollution, PSA combined oldsocial issue withnew technology, integrated the concept of noisecontrol with mobileapplication “Noise Catcher”. With Jen-Fang Yu’shelp, professor fromChung Gung University Department ofOtolaryngology, Noise Catchercan analyze the recorded sound andpresent the result on mobile app.Users can become more aware oftheir surroundings and how noise canaffect them, and how to takeappropriate measures to protecthearing.
