“Leipzig ‘89” is a multilingual audioguide,which leads to 20 original sites of the democratic changein1989/90, situated in the urban area of Leipzig, where theretookplace important actions leading to the fall of theSEDdictatorship.The GPS-supported city tour explains theparticularity,complexity and uniqueness of the entire eventPeaceful Revolutionin Leipzig. The project’s basis is the steleexhibition “Sites ofthe Peaceful Revolution”. The steles are madeof expanded metal,which was used for border fortifications in theGDR. This factpoints out special actions of the politicalresistance in Leipzig.This exhibition does not only show the mostknown events like thedecisive Monday demonstration on October 9,1989, the occupation ofthe Stasi headquarters on December 4, 1989and the first freeparliamentary election on March 18, 1990. It alsopresents smaller,but not less important actions of the civil rightsmovement.The city tour shows the chronological and spatial developmentofthe Peaceful Revolution, as well as the change of the citysince1989. It reminds of the power of the democratic idea, whichhelpedthe citizens to free themselves from the SED dictatorship.“Leipzig‘89” presents impressively an important chapter of theGermanhistory, as well as the important role of Leipzig as cityofPeaceful Revolution.The app makes the events of the Peaceful Revolution visibleandaudible and also sensually experienceable.
