Here’s how our appworks: An author finishes the firstpass of edits on his or hernovel(la)’s manuscript and uploads thisfirst draft to our site.During upload, the author determines the‘beta reading window’ andsets a deadline for potential applicantsto participate (in ourexperience this window is usually 2-4 weeksfrom the initial uploadto Pacific Crest Publishing). Interestedreaders then see thenewly-available novel(la) and apply to becomebeta readers for it.After being individually approved by theauthor, these readers gainaccess to the book and can begin betareading. All of these approvedbeta readers then have theauthor-defined period (again, usually 2-4weeks from the initialupload date) to read the book, highlighterrors, leavecomments/criticisms in the comments section attachedto the book’sprivate details page, and give the book a 1-5 starrating. Thisfeedback is absolutely crucial to crafting acompetitive productfor today’s increasingly crowded e-shelves. Whenthe beta windowcloses, access to the book is closed to all readerswhether theyparticipated or not. The author can then peruse thehighlightedwords or passages tagged by ALL of the participatingbeta readers,and these tags will be easily visible on a SINGLEdocument—no moreshuffling through a dozen or more manuscripts tocollate yourreaders’ inputs! This reduces the amount of time neededto reviewthis type of feedback and incorporate it into yourmanuscript by upto 95%!
