Locals' Guide to North Shore RidesVancouver’s North Shore trails are technically challenging, butthere are those days when it all comes together and the results aremagic. This inherent ongoing challenge fuels our passion and makesit our favourite place to ride.The present Shore is very different from the original days.Organizations like the North Shore Mountain Bike Association(NSMBA) and local governments such as the District of NorthVancouver and Metro Vancouver, work together to formalize, maintainand grow the existing trail network. The current challenge is toexpand the mountain bike trail diversity to provide more accessibletrails that will attract riders of all abilities. If it’s one thingthe ‘Shore’ is lacking, it is easier trails, but everybody willfind something fun to ride.This guide gives you two locals’ perspective on the North Shoretrail network, and we have made an effort to describe a wide rangeof trails that can accommodate all skill levels. Rides arepresented in a graduated skill and time/length format. Vernon is emerging as a must visit mountain biking destination.Located in the North Okanagan, Vernon shares the enviable lifestyleof other Okanagan communities - beaches and peaches - but has theadded benefit of having great hillsides and mountains right next tothe city. Nearby Silver Star, Kalamalka and Ellison ProvincialParks – all have mountain biking trails. The trails are developedand maintained by the North Okanagan Cycling Society. The beauty ofsome of these trails is that you can jump in the lake after a greatride! Silver Star Mountain Resort is located just 25 minutes fromdowntown Vernon and has lift accessed trails with over 50 km ofdedicated downhill trails and 1600 vertical feet of great terrain.The trails have been created to be progressive and meet a fullrange of riding expectations from beginners to experts. NorthOkanagan Cycling Society (NOCS) is a not for profit group thatprovides positive trail experiences for mountain bikers in theNorth Okanagan. We build, maintain, ride, protect and advocate fornew trails. We're the voice for mountain biking in the NorthOkanagan.
