SoCalNOMA seeks to advance and supporttheeducation and careers of those who have beenhistoricallyunder-represented in the field of architecture andvarious allieddesign/build professions. Members include architects,designers,civil engineers, structural engineers, interiordesigners, urbanplanners and product manufacturers. The SoCalNOMAchapter wasfounded in the mid-1980's and was originally called theLos AngelesChapter of the National Organization of MinorityArchitects(LANOMA). Amongst the Chapter’s historic events andaccomplishmentswere the creation of an exhibit of local chapterAfrican-Americanarchitects (hosted by the Baldwin Hills CrenshawMall), thesponsorship of a student chapter at U.S.C.’s SchoolofArchitecture, hosting of the annual national NOMA conventionandpro-bono professional design services on the redevelopmentofLeimert Park Village and other urban communityredevelopmentaspirations.
