Dino Crisis is a survival horror video game developed andpublishedby Capcom originally for the PlayStation console in 1999.DinoCrisis is the first installment in the Dino Crisis series andwasdeveloped by , including director Shinji Mikami, and sharesmanysimilarities with it. The story in Dino Crisis follows Regina,aspecial operations agent sent with a team to investigate asecludedisland research facility. Finding the place overrun withdinosaurs,in Dino Crisis Regina must fight through the facility todiscoverits secrets and ultimately escape alive.

Dino Crisis uses an original real-time engine with3Denvironments. Gameplay features traditional survivalhorrormechanics including action and puzzles, and it was developedtohave more consistent visceral terror with the dinosaursbeingquick, intelligent, and violent. Capcom would later market thegameas "panic horror" as opposed to "survival horror" due tothesedesign changes. The team used carnivorous animals asreferences foranimating the dinosaurs and programming theirbehaviors. Mikami'svision for the game was not completelyfulfilled, as he wanted todevelop more complex dinosaur artificialintelligence. However, hedid believe the team was able to createsufficiently detailedenvironments despite hardware limitations.

Dino Crisis was a critical and commercial success, withthePlayStation version selling over 2.4 million copies. DinoCrisisCritics drew heavy comparisons to others, with somedescribing itas "Evil with dinosaurs." They also praised the game'sintensity,graphics, and gameplay. Some criticism was directedtowards thelack of dinosaur variety, repetitive environments, andtediouspuzzles. Dino Crisis was ported to the Sega Dreamcast andMicrosoftWindows in 2000, and was re-released for the PlayStationNetwork in2006. Two different versions for the Game Boy Color wereindevelopment, but both were cancelled.
