Depression is the leading cause of disabilityworldwide.While a growing national dialogue around mental healthmeansawareness of mood disorders is higher than ever, there’s stillmuchwe don’t know about the science of depression. To helpVerilyresearchers better understand mental health — throughrigorous,real-world measurement — the Baseline Mood Study #2 isexploringhow smartphone data could uncover more objective markersofdepression. How will the study collect data? The study aimstogather real-world data in a simple and scalable way thatblendsseamlessly into daily life. Smartphones measure richbehavioral andenvironmental information that can indicate changesin depression.The Mood Study App collects information — includinglocation,physical activity, app usage & other routine phoneactivity —using the smartphone’s built-in sensors. It also asksquestionsabout your mental health and sleep and prompts you toprovideanswers. What data is collected? During the studyonboarding, youwill be prompted to give this application permissionto collectdata and you can update these permission preferences atany time.Please review the informed consent form for acomprehensive list ofdata collected in the study. The informationcollected in thisstudy will not be used to diagnose medicalconditions or maketreatment decisions. Where is my data stored?Verily will keep allcollected information encrypted on securesystems with multiplelayers of protection. Who will be able to seemy identity, and willthis be linked to all of my data? Arandomly-generated participantidentification code will be used whencollecting study data inorder to de-link your identity from yourpersonal data. This studyrequires you to answer surveys and share avoice and text diaryperiodically, therefore, please refrain fromsharing your personalidentification information through thesetasks. This app wasdeveloped by Verily Life Sciences (LLC). Note:Only Baseline MoodStudy #2 participants will be able to access thisapp.
