En la religión católica, se denominacatequesis o catequismo (del griego κατηχισμός, deκατηχεῖν,'instruir') a la tradición del depósito de la fe a losnuevos miembros que se inician en la Iglesia católica y suposterior instrucción. Se encuentra en el origen mismo delcristianismo, completando la doctrina transmitida en primer lugarpor el kerigma, y, durante los primeros siglos, especialmente en laépoca de los padres de la Iglesia, constituyendo la doctrinafundamental sobre la que se edifica la homilía, de gran carácterespiritual.
