Surat District Panchayat is an institutionoflocal self government of Surat District. Under the purview ofSuratJilla Panchayat the administration of Surat Jilla Panchayat,TalukaPanchayats of 9 Talukas and 567 rural panchayats issystematicallyand decently handled a noble example of three – tierpanchayatsystem. Surat Jilla Panchayat was honoured with bestJillaPanchayat award for 1985– 86 for its best performance fromallIndia Panchayat Parishad by the then Prime Minister RajivGandhi.Surat District development officer has received bestDistrictDevelopment Officer award for the year 2006
