A helicopter is a type of rotor-craft inwhichlift and thrust are supplied by rotors. This allows thehelicopterto take off and land vertically, to hover, and to flyforward,backward, and laterally.Helicopters were developed andbuilt duringthe first half-century of flight, with the Focke-WulfFw 61 beingthe first operational helicopter in 1936.
