K-index sits in the background of your phone/tablet and gives analerts if high levels of solar activity are generating geomagneticstorms - potentially disrupting GPS reception.

The K-index quantifies disturbances in the horizontal componentof earth's magnetic field with an integer in the range 0-9 with 1being calm and 5 or more indicating a geomagnetic storm.

The Estimated 3-hour Planetary Kp-index is derived at the NOAASpace Weather Prediction Center using data from the followingground-based magnetometers: Sitka, Alaska; Meanook, Canada; Ottawa,Canada; Fredericksburg, Virginia; Hartland, UK; Wingst, Germany;Niemegk, Germany; and Canberra, Australia. These data are madeavailable thanks to the cooperative efforts between SWPC and dataproviders around the world, which currently includes the U.S.Geological Survey, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), the BritishGeological Survey, the German Research Centre for Geosciences(GFZ), and Geoscience Australia. Important magnetometerobservations are also contributed by the Institute de Physique duGlobe de Paris and the Korean Space Weather Center.

K-Index monitor will check the value every 1/2 hour and show theK-index in the devices notification bar.
The 1/2 hour update can be bypassed when tapping the K-Index valuein the running process screen.

0, 1, 2 and 3 are shown in green and okay.
4 is yellow and maybe still okay.
5 and above are red, and not advisable to use a GPS device as GPSsatellites might be affected!
