GATT-IP is the reference application using theOpen Source Bluetooth Proxy Protocol. GATT-IP protocol helpstransfer data from Bluetooth Smart devices to the cloud or remotesystems. Bluetooth LE devices are designed to work with localconnection. With the new release of the GATT-IP protocol, thisenables connecting Bluetooth LE devices to remote devices via theIP network.
The core essence of Bluetooth LE is Generic Attribute Profile(GATT), which is built on top of the Attribute Protocol (ATT) andestablishes common operations and a framework for the datatransported and stored by the Attribute Protocol. GATT defines tworoles: Server and Client. With the release of GATT-IP, the tworoles are now extended from local near range access to remoteaccess from anywhere. The protocol is simple with the ability tocontrol any Bluetooth LE /Smart device remotely from any Internetconnected browser. GATT-IP is based on JSON-RPC to allow accessingremote Bluetooth devices via a series of procedure calls to controlthe devices just like you would when connected locally.
GATT-IP bridges the gap between smaller embedded devices to networkconnected systems, including data collection systems to collect andmonitor. This helps Internet Of Things platforms to stay connectedto Bluetooth LE devices with simple extensions.
