ANPReader is the first ANPR/ALPR (automated numberplate/licenseplate recognition) application designed and optimisedfor mobiledevices, providing single-click capture and accurateresults withinseconds. It works well in a wide range of lightingconditions,supports oblique angles, can read skewed plates, and canperformANPR recognition across a broad spectrum of distances andsizes.Unlike other ANPR scanning apps, this one runs entirely onyourAndroid device without needing a network, so there are NOdatacharges or network delays whatsoever, and the number platesyouwant to read are NOT uploaded to any server. As well ashandlingpoor and low lighting conditions, ANPReader also supportsnumerousformats of car, motorcycle, and heavy goods vehicleregistrationplates, including personalised and some international(non-UK)number plates. In the past, Automatic Number PlateRecognition ANPRtechnology has been mostly limited to expensiveroadside cameras orsophisticated vehicle mounted devices. Use inparking and garagesecurity systems has been limited to costlyserver based solutions,and largely restricted to capturingnumber-plates facing directlytowards a camera, and in fixedlighting conditions. Limitations:The 'lite' version of ANPReaderprovides lower recognitioncapabilities and accuracy than the fullversions. It is limited to20 ANPR reads per day, after which thereis a short delay beforerecognition results are displayed to theuser (full and proversions do not have this delay). Usage: (1) HoldyourAndroid device horizontally, making sure the camera isnotobscured. Try to line up the car number plate such that itfallsroughly within the green focusing rectangle. The focusingboxserves as a visual guide, but it does not matter if thenumberplate falls slightly outside its area. (2) Tap the cameraicon onthe screen to take a picture of the number plate. ANPReaderwillanalyse the image you took and recognise and display thenumberplate. You can then tap the number to edit it or copy andpaste itinto another application. To copy the number to theclipboard,swipe it with your finger and then select 'Copy toclipboard' fromthe context menu. (3) To take a new image, simplypress the 'back'button on your Android device. (4) If you'd likeANPReader to saveeach image that it recognises to your SD card,then please go tothe 'Settings' menu and check the option 'Saveimages to SD card'.Images will be written to your SD card usingfile names of the form'plateID_date_time.png'. The 'Settings' menucan be accessed bypressing the menu button on your Android deviceor by selecting itfrom the activity bar.
