본 사업단은 2014년 교육부에서 시행된 지방대학 특성화사업(CK-1)에 선정되어 매년 15억원의 재정지원을 받아해양바이오산업 분야에 필요한 기업 실무형 인재양성을 목적으로 하고 있습니다.

21세기 바이오산업은 국가 경제발전을 주도할 수 있는 핵심산업으로서 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하게 되었습니다.지금까지 육상생물자원에 의존한 바이오산업은 소재개발의 한계에 부딪히면서 해양바이오산업이 새로운 바이오소재 개발 및국가발전의 신 동력산업으로 고부가가치를 창출할 수 있는 핵심산업으로 주목을 받고 있습니다.
이러한 시대 흐름에 맞추어 강원도에서는 동해안 강릉권역전략산업을 해양바이오산업으로 특화하였으며, 강릉원주대학교에서는1998년부터 해양바이오산업을 특성화 분야로 육성하기 위하여 해양바이오산업 인재양성에 힘써 왔습니다.

본 사업단은 해양바이오분야의 교육강화시스템과 진로 및 취업강화교육과정을 개발하여 대학과 기업이 함께하는 인재교육을기본 프레임으로 하여 실무연계 융합 및 심화교육과정 운영, 특성화 Lab 지도체계 구축, 기업체 현장실습교육 및 지원,글로벌 리더십, 직무능력 배양 등을 통하여 해양바이오산업에 기여할 수 있는 인재를 양성하고 있습니다. 사업단을 통해배출된 해양바이오분야의 인재들은 지역 해양바이오산업 및 지역경제 발전에 크게 기여할 것으로 생각됩니다.

본 사업단이 성공적으로 수행될 수 있도록 소속 학과 교수님들의 적극적인 참여가 필요하며, 학생들은 사업단에서운영되고 있는 다양한 교육프로그램에 적극적으로 참여하여 개인역량 강화를 통해 해양바이오산업에 꼭 필요한 인재로 거듭나길기대합니다.
