Professionals from the fields of criminaljustice,health care, education and research will gather toparticipate inintensive workshops and peer discussions to addresspreventionstrategies, public policy and improved services forvictims.
While victimization from domestic violence transcends race,age,gender and socioeconomic status, domestic violence is theleadingcause of injury to women. Ironically, women face thegreatest riskof assault when they leave or threaten to leave theirpartners, orreport the abuse to authorities. Domestic violence notonlyseverely affects victims, it also threatens community safetyandcosts our nation more than $8 billion each year inmedicaltreatment, lost work and school time, police response andcommunityservices.
