A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seater, two doorautomobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling.According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the first known use ofthe term was in 1928. Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious, buthigh maneuverability and minimum weight are requisite. They may beequipped for racing, "especially an aerodynamically shapedone-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center ofgravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control athigh speeds." The definition of a sports car is not precise, butfrom the earliest first automobiles "people have found ways to makethem go faster, round corners better, and look more beautiful" thanthe ordinary models inspiring an "emotional relationship" with acar that is fun to drive and use for the sake of driving. The basisfor the sports car is traced to the early 20th century touring carsand roadsters. These raced in early rallys, such as the HerkomerCup, Prinz Heinrich Fahrt, and Monte Carlo. Though the term sportscar would not be coined until after World War One, the first sportscars are considered to be the 3 litre 1910 Prince Henry (PrinzHeinrich) Vauxhall 20 hp (tax rating) and the 27/80PSAustro-Daimler designed by Ferdinand Porsche.
