Kaamatan or Pesta Kaamatan is a form of harvest festivalcelebratedannually in the state of Sabah in Malaysia. It isnormallycelebrated by the ethnic Kadazan-Dusuns, as well as byotherrelated ethnic groups in the state, and lasts for the whole ofthemonth of May, ending with a public holiday on the 30–31May.
A beautiful country is Sabah Malaysia, land below the wind, landofbiodiversity, natural beauty, peace and tranquility, and homeofsome of the world’s most vibrant and colorful indigenouspeoples:the multi-ethnic Kadazandusuns, the Muruts, the Rungus andtheBajaus, who are otherwise known as "the cowboys oftheOrient’.
Though many of Sabah’s indigenous peoples have now ventured intothemodern way of life and moved to the cities to pursue moderncareers,a sizeable number of them still live their ancestral wayof life, conscious of their traditional worldviews and practicingtheircustomary laws known as "Adats and Pantangs".
The Kadazandusuns in particular still have their PriestsandPriestesses called Bobolians. They are the authorities onthesocio-spiritual and communal life of the Kadazandusuns:theintermediaries between humans and divinities, healersandperformers of cultural rites and ceremonies of the humanlifestations such as birth, marriage, sickness, death and lifebeyondthis world.
In the field of agronomy, they are the guardians of the lifecycleof the Kadazandusun staple crop - paddy, and keepersandpropagators of various other multi-purpose plants andfoodresources.
