Rio de Janeiro is a huge seaside city in Brazil, famed foritsCopacabana and Ipanema beaches, 38m Christ the Redeemer statueatopMt. Corcovado and Sugarloaf, a granite monolith with cable carstoits summit. The city is also known for its sprawlingfavelas(shanty towns). Its raucous Carnival festival, featuringparadefloats, flamboyant costumes and samba, is considered theworld’slargest.
