Boomerang is a simple app to improve on thedrawbacks of the Android notification drawer. It allows you to saveindividual notifications for later and optionally set a reminderfor a more convenient time - helping you to achieve notificationdrawer zero.
After a notification is removed (e.g. it is dismissed or tapped on)an unobtrusive notification will appear in its place for a shorttime, allowing you to save it for later.
Features include:
• You can save notifications for later, rather than keeping themfrom cluttering up the notification drawer.
• Only likely to save emails? Or social media notifications? Youselect which applications to show save prompts for.
• Set reminders to review saved notifications at a later time, orat a set time and date.
• Don’t want to save every notification? Save prompts will removethemselves after 10 seconds (or set a shorter / longer time in thesettings).
• View your most recent saved notifications and upcoming remindersfor the current day with a quick access screen.
• Impact on battery performance is considered, with backgroundoperations designed to only be active when they have to be.
Permissions explained:
• "notification listener service" - Required to allow Boomerang’soperations to run, including allowing you to save the notificationsand create reminders.
• "vibrate" - Required to allow reminder notifications to vibratewhen delivered, just the same as other notifications.
• "run at startup" - Required to allow the app to restart itselfwhen the device turns on.
• "stop the device from sleeping" - Required to allow for somebackground processing, this is only used where necessary and onlyfor seconds at a time.
• "view network connections" + "full network access" - Requiredfor checking whether a network connection is active beforesending/receiving anonymous usage data. Your notification contentis not collected, your privacy is taken very seriously.
Developed using research undertaken at Cardiff University.Anonymous data from the app will be used for academic researchpurposes. This data will be used to understand how users choose todeal with the volume notifications from apps, that typically occuron a smartphone.
